Our Weekend

Warning, this is a long post. I’ll try to keep to visual images rather than talk your ears off.

I simply wanted to razz in for a moment to tell you about our weekend. Jon and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a weekend away at Willow’s Lodge which is located in Woodinville, WA. The lodge is situated right smack dab in the middle of wine country where there is no shortage of places to partake in sampling some of the best vintners this state has to offer. It’s sometimes hard to decide which place to go, but really it’s all great – you simply cannot go wrong. My husband and I are no wine connoisseurs which is why a trip like this is so interesting – each time we go, we learn something new. We spent a day with friends who live in the area and knew their way around town. We sampled wines and talked to Sommeliers who were able to breakdown the science of it all into small relatable qualities  – this one is full bodied with hints of chocolate and tastes a little like currants and ginger. Sometimes I got what they were saying and other times, not so much.

We were hoping for sun or at least a few days without rain but it was not to be. The rain clouds had already formed and were marching in single file, straight for our little lodge.

When we checked in, the guy at the front desk asked, "Would you like a complimentary sample of our featured red while you're checking in?" Now if that isn't a big fat hello, I don't know what is.

When we got to our room a man came up behind us with a bouquet of flowers and a plate of brownies. I thought it was from my husband but he quickly said it wasn't his doing. The card attached said it came from my colleague/friend, Kim who lives in Florida. She's always surprising me like this and each time I'm tickled and a little teary eyed because she's just so darn thoughtful, and stealth!! I had no idea she'd be doing this. She's sneaky.

I really wanted to bust open the snack basket but after looking at what they wanted for the caramel corn, I quickly made up my mind that all snacks would have to come from the nearest Tops Food Store.

Then if the flowers and brownies weren't enough, I turned around to find a velvet black box on the bed. My husband gave a knowing smile.

At night, we listened to music.
On Saturday morning, a man came to our room with milk and cookies and ran a lavender bath for me. It's strange to have a stranger in your room running a bath, but he brought cookies so I couldn't turn him away.

The guys did a little whisky and vodka sampling.

The ladies, we checked out the decor. Can you believe this is a warehouse?
Even though Willows is 30 minutes from where I live, it really felt like we were hundreds of miles away. Sometimes it isn't until you're away from the children that you realize how quiet the rest of the world can be. Quiet is a nice sound for a few days, but after a weekend, I was ready to see my girls. Later this week I'll try to find the time to post pictures of what my kids crafted with their Grammy while we were gone -- they were busy little rascals alright.

On an unrelated note, I'm also very sorry about this post. The alignment on Blogger is not working and so some paragraphs are justified while some are centered. It's been doing this for several weeks now and I don't know how to fix it. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

  3. Matina, I am so frustrated with Blogger right now. They are driving me crazy. I know my writing and photography aren't great, but at least give me the option to justify my paragraphs!!! SHEEZES. HA!

Charlie, Tales of a Female Nomad is awesome. I borrowed it from my mom, who learned about it from you. Thanks!!!
