Bathroom Addition Is Done

Finally!! Our bathroom is done! The shower and sink has running water, the toilet flushes, the lights turn on, the heater is working, the fan is blowing, towels are hung... I'm thrilled!

We have had three workmen in our home since mid November and what a relief it is to wake up and find that they are no longer here. They were awesome guys, handy as ever, but it was getting to be a little much. At first I'd awake long before they got here to shower, dress and put on makeup, but after a few weeks of this, I decided that they could just see me as my husband does each morning... saggy eyes, frizzy hair and raspy voice... no need to get all gussied up for these bloats, they'd just have to make due with whatever condition I was in from one morning to the next. Needless to say, they adjusted rather effortlessly to my scraggly faded, blue robe and bright, grapefruit colored night shirt just fine. There were no second glances or awkward smiles, only, "Morn'n, Maya." Then down to the basement they went only to pop up every now and again to say, "We're gonna have to shut the water off for... say, a few hours." Music to my ears right? NOT. That only meant I'd be in said faded, blue robe and grapefruit, night shirt for the rest of the day... Jon just loved that I'm sure!

Now that we're done with bathroom addition, it's time to move on, eventually, to other projects around the house. We still need to buy furniture for our TV room as we gave the old furniture away to one of the handymen {we were going to throw it away and he very kindly offered to take it off our hands}. We now have an empty TV room to fill. Tomorrow Carpet Cleaner is coming to knock out those coffee, soda and buttered popcorn stains before we can order new furniture. It's all coming together my friends, it's all coming together.

Still Renovating....

Why we decided to take on a home renovation project during the holiday season is beyond me. We must have been  naive to think it would have been done by Christmas. Well, Christmas came and went, then we were told that it would be done by New Year's... not so much. Despite the lengthy time it appears to be taking to get the job done, we know that Handyman has been working like mad -- he and his crew of two other guys -- and so I'm content wih the progress thus far. There were plumbing issues that slowed Handyman's productivity considerably and now I'm happy to report that those plumbing issues are far behind us. Now, it's all finish work from here. Handyman, please don't make me eat my words.

So without further adieu, here is where our renovation stands tonight:

This the laundry room. The tile work and painting is done and now a transition strip needs to be installed where the rug meets the tile. A bi-fold door will also be installed.

There's the new stylish in-wall ironing board I told you about. In the far background you can make out the door that will go over it. It'll be stealth you see. Oh, looky here, what is this? An ironing board? Modern scientist have thought of everything.

It swivels from side to side. Snazzy

Here's the first look at what will be our bathroom. That's the start of our shower stall.

The vanity will go between the shower and the throne. That little contraption you see there, tucked away in the recess of the wall, is the macerating part of the toilet. Yes, you heard me correctly -- macerate. Through this process we've learned more than we've ever cared to know about toilets. Turns out that stuff really does need to roll down hill, and when there is no hill, you get yourself a macerating toilet... and that's all I'm going to say about that. Moving on...

Way in the background there, behind the hideous black chair, is the rest of the toilet. The vanity is sitting right next to the column. I can't wait to find these pieces, installed, in the bathroom. I can't wait!!!

Handyman even hung our TV on the wall. Now if this renovation can just be done already, I'll actually be able to sit and watch all the shows I've DVR'd.

Anyways, that's where we are tonight with our bathroom/laundry room. Hopefully by this weekend, I'll have the finished project to share with you. Cross your fingers and toes for me please.

Finally After All These Years

This was our basement on Monday night.

A sorry sight I'm afraid. Pure chaos I tell you. Look at those gorgeous new appliances sitting there amongst the clutter.

After 12 years of living in a 1 bathroom home, we've decided to add a 2nd bathroom.

Goodbye clutter.

Handyman has gotten down to business on building our new bathroom/laundry area and this is what our basement has looked like.

And here is what it looks like today. Can you see it all coming together?

Handyman has been working hard arriving at 8:30 a.m. and then leaving around 7 p.m. He's such a nice man. Here is a likeness of him by way of his calling card.

Okay, maybe it doesn't look exactly like him, but if you squint, the likeness is uncanny.
